Strong Supply & Demand in a Buoyant September

The all-important September market for remarketing has started very strongly at SMA Vehicle Remarketing with a series of record sales indicating positive market conditions.

Auction sales provide a useful barometer of dealer confidence and what is clear after the first 10 days of September is that it has been a very busy start for the month for franchised dealers and that used buyers are keen to increase stock levels. This is the clear conclusion at SMA, judging from the volume of used vehicles that have been passing through the remarketing cycle.

Record sales volumes at SMA's Birmingham and Kinross centres is expected to be matched across the Group's other centres as stock passes through refurbishment ready for marketing.

"The sustained strong new car market had led us to expect a busy start to September and we have not been disappointed. Supply has been matched by demand and our stock funding office activity in the days running up to the start of the month led us to expect that buyers would be active. It seems our planning has been spot on," noted SMA's Managing Director Bob Anderson.

Buyers have been active both online and on the auction floors, with high levels of representation. In common with recent trends, whilst there is a focus upon quantity, it is evident that quality is also important and time spent in preparation and refurbishment within SMA's on-site facilities has been well rewarded in price and conversion levels.

Looking ahead to the rest of the month, the outlook continues to look robust and more records are anticipated.

Our grading system is changing

NAMA grading has been developed to provide a long awaited industry standard grading scheme to be used across all auctions within the UK.

We have now introduced NAMA grading across our sites, and over the coming weeks you will notice more vehicles being offered for sale displaying a NAMA grade. These grades are easy to identify as they are 1,2,3,4,5 and U in place of the SMA grades A,B,C,D and E.

Please make sure you have familiarised yourself with the grades. We will still produce condition reports providing additional information for each vehicle as we always have.
